Portrait Painting Class with Sarah Thibodeaux Starts Saturday June 26

H Street Icon | CLASSES |

Class runs from June 26 to August 14, 2010 Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 1:00p.m

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop is pleased to present a seven-week class in portrait painting in oils taught by Capitol Hill-based artist Sarah Griffin Thibodeaux. In the class, students will have the opportunity to watch a demonstration of the alla prima portrait painted in oils from the live model.

In subsequent sessions, students will paint the model from life.

"This is the tradition of teaching that trained artists in the nineteenth century in the craft of realist painting, " observes instructor/artist Sarah Griffin Thibodeaux. "This is how the tradition of realist painting has been handed down and not been lost."  Thibodeaux studied traditional drawing and painting techniques at the New Orleans  Academy of Fine Arts, the Arts Students League in Manhattan, and the Florence Academy of  Art.

"I'm lucky to have studied with artists who learned their craft from the master figure painters of the early twentieth century," says Thibodeaux.

A resident of Washington DC since 2007, she brings her energy and enthusiasm for painting the figure to Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, where she teaches portrait painting and runs a weekly figure painting session.

She also paints portraits on commission. She recently finished a portrait of a university dean. Her subjects include children, young adults, families, and corporate executives.  To view works by the artist, as well as events, classes, workshops, and descriptions of painting techniques, visit the artist's web site at www.studiothibodeaux.com.

The class runs from June 26 to August 14, 2010, on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 1:00p.m., at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th St SE, Washington, DC.

Those artists interested in working independently from the model can join the Saturday afternoon session, "Working from the Figure." Sessions are held 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on the following Saturdays: June 26, July 10, July 17, July 24, July 31, August 7, August 14.
